Ted Bernhard is a seasoned business, securities and tax attorney and investment fund manager based in the Pacific Northwest, with a professional career spanning over two decades. He worked for over eight years as Managing Partner for four institutionally-backed venture capital funds in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, directing the Funds’ investment, legal, and financial activities as they invested in over 100 different companies. Ted also has been in private law practice for over fifteen years, focusing on business and real estate law. He began his legal career with one of the largest business law firms in Oregon and has since continued that practice by starting and running his own transactional law firm, acting for several years as general corporate counsel for a $30 Million per year privately-held business and, most recently, acting as Strategic Legal Counsel and Managing Director of the Portland office of Cultiva Law, PLLC.
His specialty is in evaluating investment opportunities in privately-held companies and structuring and negotiating financial transactions between those companies and investors, which he can do very effectively because of his combination of business, real estate, tax, regulatory, and securities law expertise and his senior executive management experience. Ted is an active member of the Oregon State Bar Association. He graduated from Willamette University College of Law where he was a law review member and the President of the Tax Law Society. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in mathematical economics while successfully starting and running two of his own small businesses. Between college and law school, he worked as an analyst for globally-recognized management consulting firm Booz-Allen & Hamilton in New York City.
